STOP MISUSING THE WORD "JIHAD"!

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

Submitted by Katie (Canada), Jun 10, 2007 at 21:47

jihad means struggle or "to srtive", NOT HOLY WAR.

there are three kinds of jihad:

1. The Greatest Jihad (Jihad e-Akbar), which is the struggle against oneself in their evil desires or temptations. this is a PERSONAL struggle and doesn't involve anyone but the self.

2. The Greater Jihad (Jihad e-Kabir), which is a lifelong struggle against the unbelievers. This struggle is overcome by study and proclamation of the Qur'an, and is NON VIOLENT

3. The Lesser/Minor Jihad (Jihad e-Asgher), which is permission given in surrah 22:40 of the Qur'an to fight battles of self-defence when persecuted. War is not acceptable for terrorist activities or to make people accept Islam under duress.

... The word Jihad does not mean holy war. If you want to say "holy war" then...say "holy war"!
