Religion as an excuse

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

Submitted by K (Australia), May 18, 2003 at 22:12

Ever since the beginning of the world, religion has been used as an excuse or interpreted to suit a means. The Islamic religion is not evil. ..

The families and the people themselves who are involved in these murderous events do see their actions as murder but rather as a sacrifice for Allah who will reward them in the next life. I feel that this is a tragic waste of life for something that is not even guaranteed.

The point remains that not all Muslim people are evil; one should not generalise in that way -- that would be like saying that a whole country is composed of world class sports people when in reality only a small minority are that talented.

It is my belief that Muslims are being unfairly targeted whether intentionally or not, by the world as a scape-goat for the tragic events that have happened recently.

As a non-Muslim I feel that there is no need to blame the Islamic religion for terrorists, suicide bombers, or the Osama bin Ladens of the world. In the end it is only the fault of that handful of people who chose to commit evil and use religion as an excuse.
