Islam or Christianity?

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

Submitted by Alexander Shelby (United States), Sep 28, 2002 at 00:49

I have read most of the above comments and I find them disturbing.

If the government were to declare tomorrow that all Muslims in America are to wear crescent moons on their shirts and must be placed in ghettos, I have no dout that all the above people would go along.

Islam is not the problem; the West and Imperialism is. The fact is, and it is a fact, for the last 400 years the West has exploited and used the the resources, wealth, and labor of the rest of the world to its benefit. The United States took over after WWII and has been, ever since, the driving force against democracy. I remind you of Iran in 1953, when the US overthrew the democratically elected government of Mossadegh in favor of our old friend, the butcher of Iran, the Shah.

And everyone knows what happen 28 years later.

We continued to exploit and use the "Third World" in favor of profit. Then 9-11 came and we became aware of the world around us for a few months after. The sad truth is we are ignoring these facts again. We can not continue to ignore the rest of the world or make ignorant 'red neck' statements like "Islam is evil." These statements are not going to make the problem go away; the war on terror will not solve the conundrum.
