A "varnished" truth is not helpful

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

Seriously, we NEED someone to counter the continual stream of absurd "moral equivalency" of Islam to other religions in the media. Neither the media nor the U.S. government have done their job. In fact, the State Department has actively PROMOTED Islam.

Some of us know the unvarnished truth Mr. Pipes. A "varnished" truth is not helpful when the stakes are as high as they are. It is utterly clear that the Bush administration is blatently hypocritical in it's absurd assesments of "Islam as a religion of peace" for the solitary purpose of ingratiating the Saudis to his share holders.

I submit to you that what Bush did when he proclaimed Islam "a religion of peace" after September 11th was an act of treason. He willfilly claimed that the known enemy of the nation was not who he bloody well knew them to be, and in so doing, he opened the flood gates to and endless streams of Islamic propaganda built upon that lie. Imagine for a moment if you will that it is world war two and the President has announced that "National Socialism is a philosophy of peace". THIS IS an equivalent and whether the philosophy wants to call itself a "religion" or not doesn't amount to a hill of beans in the REAL world. You know, the one where jets fly into buildings killing thousands of innocent civilians.

The only REAL hope that the west has in all of this is to STOP with all the "politically correct" half-truth telling to sooth "religious sensitivities". No one holds a religion with a gun at their head to embrace it, it is a CHOICE, and if it's a bad choice, then we ought not be ashamed to say as much, pulling no punches. Oh I forgot, SOME people DO have a "gun to their head" in religion; Muslims from OTHER Muslims, and ULTIMATELY, US if we do not stop playing games with these people. This ass-backwards totalitarianism excusing itself as a "faith" needs to DIE, and the sooner the better. The reality is that it's "Us or them", and with the Bush administration saying "It's not them", the State Department saying "Islam is beautiful, here are educational materials for your kids", the very LEAST I expect from someone who's taken the mantle of "Islamic propaganda fighter" is to tell the damn truth without apology. Lets face it, your last couple of articles have represented an innane sort of wishful thinking that is not helpful is dealing with a very ugly reality that confronts the west. There are not many people with access to the media who're willing to take this on, so don't be surprised at some anger if we think you're getting soft on this issue Mr. Pipes. We just haven't got many people telling the truth anymore and we don't want to lose someone who did. I ask you to read my previous letter again, it tells the truth not as we wish it to be, but as it is.
