Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam
in response to reader comment: Leah, Read Qur'an before making comments

Submitted by Leah (United States), Aug 31, 2006 at 23:33

From reading your well written and appealing comments, one who is familiar with the Qur'an, Hadiths and Sunnah can only conclude that you simply have no knowledge of Islam or the Qur'an. In one of your comments you state that polygamy (is only debatably condoned by the Koran).
However, according to the Qur'an, polygamy is absolutely legal.

Surah 4:3. Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice. May I boldly suggest that you read the Qur'an before making these silly and appeasing remarks regarding something of which you know very little if anything at all. For your information, Osama bin Laden's father was married to 20 wives and fathered 50 children.

1. I do not hold Osama Bin Laden as a model Muslim.

2. The Q'uran states that polygamy is allowed only IF one can treat all wives equally in every respect. Is it really possible to divide one's love perfectly equally between two wives? This is debatable. Thus, polygamy is only debatably condoned.

3. However, you are correct: I have little knowledge of the Q'uran. However, my impression of it is that it is directly contradictory, saying outright the contradictions of mercy vs. justice that the Judeo-Christian tradition only implies. It also seems that there is nothing in the Q'uran worse in violence or political correctness in terms of quality; only in quantity. (Again, this may be mistaken.)
