Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam
in response to reader comment: The Lesser Jihad

Hello again Mr Schills,

Until now I have regarded you as a reasoned outsider who has made some pertinent points. From this post I now realize that you are spouting apologist talking points that are repeated by Muslims everywhere. The lesser Jihad, only done in defense, only to save lives, Allah says to kill an innocent is like killing all people (stolen by the way from the Torah) etc. etc. etc. It is very tiresome and frustrating to rebut, but I will do so briefly here for your benefit.

The way that Muslims get around saying they only will do a 'defensive Jihad' is as follows:

a. any land that has in any way been perceived as occupied by a Muslim at one time or another is considered Muslim land, and therefore any Jihad is in defense of that 'Muslim Land' (see Andalusia, Kashmir, Bosnia, Chechnya, Gaza, Israel, etc.etc). So everything is theoretically in defense, and if not in defense of Muslim land, then in defense of Muslim lives.

b. As has been quoted by many a Muslim warmonger in the past, there is no such thing as an innocent Israeli for example. They are all soldiers preventing Muslims from having their land, therefore since they are not innocent, their lives are fair game, women and children included. The crux of the matter comes down to who is really considered an innocent, or who is really considered an aggressor, and odds are it is anyone they want it to be.

Do not try to tell us that these beliefs are not true Islam and that anyone who believes them is not a true Muslim. You might get your head chopped off for saying that. We could argue about the existence of Radical vs. Moderate Islam, but lets not pretend that they are all using the same book and Hadiths to get their inspiration as they will continue to do. Some would even argue that the majority agree with the 'radical' interpretations but they just sit on the sidelines and silently cheer.

Your lovely classic definition of Jihad is all well and good. Too bad there are millions of Muslims who beg to differ. I wonder where they get such outlandish ideas from.
