"The Quranic verses were revealed over a period of years, during which there were various issues, including civil and national wars, and all references to killing and slaying the non-believers were directed at the people of those times,"
Either the book was written by Allah for all people or it was just written for a period. Pick one as you can't have it both ways.

"Anyone who uses references to slaying non-believers in the modern day is not a believer, but a terrorist."
Nice opinion. But the fact remains, the muslim assumes the quoran was written for him not for someone else's period, as such the muslim will try to apply the book to his daily life. This 'fact' must have been noted by whoever wrote the koran in abu-bakr's time.

"Any non-believers who try to ridicule muslims by quoting these references should understand that they are misinterpreting what is not meant for them."
Unfortunately Ridicule is a word i hear a lot when muslims defend themselves. I apologize in advance but a man who enslaves a woman and forces sex on her after massacring 600-900 males of her tribe including her dad, brothers and cousins is NOT Allowed in my House. I am sorry if you consider this ridicule. I am dead serious when I say it.

"The Hindu scriptures are also full of accounts of bloody battles and perverse acts of war, but nobody quotes these at all,"
Yes we do.

"and why also does nobody refer to the kamikazi attackers from Japan during the World war?"
A soldier, wearing a uniform, in war, what's the problem? And for the record the illegal attack on pearl harbor and the kamikaze in it are a dark spot on their country's history. During the rest of the war there is nothing wrong with their acts.
