in response to reader comment: A Religion of Peace

you are absolutely correct in what you said. no doubt that Islam emphasizes the concepts of struggle, courage, and respect more than love and peace. this is the beauty in Islam. it is not an idealistic religion (better word: culture), rather, it is realistic, in that it knows that if one is weak in his or her self and that person is someone who "loves the world" so much that they let emotion stand in the way of Truth, that person will be in a very weak situation.

on a side note, one can make the argument that on a much deeper level, Islam is in itself a religion of peace. for example, democracy is all about freedom. yet democratic powers fight and kill constantly to overthrow other types of governments. if democracy is all about freedom, where is the freedom to choose one's own government? democracy is (supposedly, and that's a whole different issue) only freedom to those who follow it correctly. Islam is the same. one who follows Islam correctly always feels peace within his or her self because in its nature, Islam is all about peace. however, like democracy, it is not weak and it will not be pushed around (like you said, respect over love, and struggle/courage over peace). so I applaud you Leah, on seeing that truth and comprehending it so nicely the way it is supposed to be. my regards.
