Is Turkey an example?

Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

As awfully as it sounds - I wouldn't object to J. Morris ("Of course Islam is the evil") and Reza Zaman ("Moderate Islam does not exist") comments.
And I don't think Turkey makes a point to the contrary - mullahs of Turkey are no different from rabid ones of Iran but (based on my observation) - they don't enjoy mass support of the mostly secular younger and better educated Turks but rather thrive on the most backward part of the populus.
But given the chance they would drive Turkey into 14th century the way Iranians have.
