Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam

I dont think my heart is the issue here. I know that history is littered with good and bad deeds committed in the name of all religions. But this is now. The problem is obviously that Islam has remained stuck in the past. The past is the past and we should not be running our lives based on the laws of the past. Those laws were obviously appropriate for people back then, not now. Your quote from Samuel P. Huntington is a good one "The underlying problem for the West is not Islamic Fundamentalism. It is Islam, a different civilization whose people are convinced of the superiority of their culture and are obsessed with the inferiority of their power. ..." I would disagree by saying that Islamic Fundamentalism is also a major problem, but his point is well made. It should really go on to say that as a result of their belief in the superiority of thier religion, it demands that it be imposed on the world. Well guess what, I dont want to be a muslim.

You make the point that muslims want to be governed by muslims. I have no problem with that, but not in my country. They left their countries that were governed by muslims to come to the west. Guess what, there are still plenty of countries that are governed by muslims. Why dont they go there to live. I think you know the reason why. They say they hate our capitalist life, but they like our clothes, our television, our restaunts, theater, saftey, freedom the list goes on. The reality is, they will never have that life back in their muslim contries. They stay in the west and try and change us to them. Dont they understand if they did that then we would simply recreate the enviroment that they left.

Why cant they live their lives without trying to change mine. When you accept the hospitality of a country, you should not spit in the eye of those who have given you a chance of a new life. They need to understand why we feel about what we do. I for one will no longer succumb to the pressures of political correctness that has allowed the quality of my life to be eroded by those who want to do me harm. I urge all who oppose, not islam, but the islamists and islamic radicals, to speak up. I urge all moderate muslims who oppose islamic radicals and terrorists to speak up.

Mr Watson please wake up to the realities of the day. The mantra of "Islam is a religion of peace and love" doesnt cut it when the evidence proves it wrong.
