Reader comment on item: The Evil Isn't Islam
in response to reader comment: the problem with atheists

Submitted by Musonius Rufus (United States), Sep 27, 2006 at 14:13

...I'm definitely not an atheist – agnostic is much closer - although it's true that I have no problems ripping your beliefs in public or anywhere else. In no way do I wish to force my beliefs upon you or anyone else nor do I have any problem with you worshipping how you want or expressing your beliefs in public.

I'm not opposed to prayers at graduations, or manger scenes in public places, and while you might hear me saying that Moses, not God, wrote the 10 commandments, you won't hear me opposing their presence in a court of law. My problem is with religious dogmatists making assertions they can't possibly know are true and doing so in such a way as to exclude anyway other possible path to salvation. It doesn't have to be that way. I can be a Christian, or a Muslim, or a Buddhist, or whatever works for ME without insisting that what you claim works for you is false and you're just fooling yourself. Which anyone of any faith can say to anyone of a different faith with the same degree of validity. I know, you've been told that's not possible but it is.
