"Why sacrifice is necessary to atone for sin"

in response to reader comment: Why sacrifice necessary

Dear Lynn

I went 'fast forward' through the Old and New Covenants of the Bible, outlining our sin problem, and God's solution to it by sending His Son Jesus to die in our place, and in sacrificially doing so, He has "done death to death" for all those who personally accept His gift, and I'm sorry you feel my outline wasn't clear, because on re-reading my posting I feel that I outlined the Biblical revelation clearly enough, in my understanding of it as a deeply committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

You ask why the all-powerful God doesn't just punish those who do not repent, and forgive those who do, asking in effect, why God chose to personally pay the price for our sin, rather than just accepting those who say sorry, and punish those who don't, and I can't 'explain' why God chose to act in the way that He did, that is His sovereign decision and I accept it, doing my best to handle the revelation He has given us in His printed Word, the Bible, that revelation being supremely given us in His living, loving Word, the Lord Jesus Christ, "The Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world," John 1:29

You may find it helps by looking at "Does the Jewish Bible teach that we need a blood sacrifice for forgiveness of sins?" at http://www.preciousholidays.net/bloodsacrifice.html and also at "Does the Bible teach that Messiah will be a sacrifice for sins?" at http://www.preciousholidays.net/Messiahsacrifice.html

Thank you Lynn for asking this massively important question, and because I believe the Bible to be all-sufficient in all matters of belief conduct and doctrine, I believe there to be nothing more important than seeking to understand what it teaches about how sinful human beings can be made acceptable to an utterly Holy God Who cannot just "wink at sin."

With kind regards and best wishes

Lactantius Jr
