How about the sufi's? Khalil Gibran and such people. The sufi's are perhaps the most enlightened batch of moslims out there.

Funnily enough when sufism gained prominence (somewhere around 1200-1500 CE) it is roughly the same time when the warfare against India by moslims stopped for a long period, which allowed the Rajputs to rebuild their lands, until about 1520 when it all started again.
