Misconceptions about Islam, Omar

Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict XVI and the Koran
in response to reader comment: Moderate and radical Muslim

Omar wrote there are many misconceptions about Islam. He is right, yes there are many misconceptions about Islam but contrary to what Omar thinks these are mostly in the minds of the Muslims. They try to portary Islam as what is popular at the time twisting the meaning of the text beyond recognition. They claim the Koran contains all the knowledge of the world past, present and future. In one explanation of the present cooncept of the solar system -- it was in the USC website -- explained that the wording in a verse that the moon becomes a twig means it goes around the earth. What flight of imagination?

"However, it is worth noting that historically, Islam did spread by peaceful means." He went on to write. Evidently he is completely unaware of history of Islam. I can quote chapter after chapter how after each conquest in India the loser were given the choise of death or Islam.

If Islam is so peaceful, has Omar ever wonder why apostasy from Islam is punishable with death?

If Islam is so peaceful and tolerant of other faiths, why in Saudi Arabia where the Koran is the constitution, practice of any religion other than Islam is prohibited? Are the Saudis violating thier own constitution? At least the Saudis cannt be accused of wrong interpretation of the holy Book?
