It was a key theme at the Vatican II that no matter what religion you declared, if you lived a pious and good life, devout in your own religion, and followed the teachings of Christ (knowingly or unknowingly) then you had a good chance of going to heaven. However, if you were exposed to the truth, and stubbornly refused the light not because you didn't believe it but because you were too prideful to convert, then that is a fault.

In the end, God is truly All-Good, and would not sentence a good person to Hell regardless of his religious denomination. At Vatican II they emphasized that a good person growing up under other religious conditions was not a fault for never being taught or raised Catholic. It is the duty of Christians, then, to teach and spread the word, and for all people to listen with open minds and hearts (and thus abstain from stubborn and ignorant clinging to your raised religion).

My quarrel is with the Islamic teachings manifesting themselves in terrorism, Islamist extremism, subjugation, etc. Although this is "not" the intended Islam, the mere fact that it can be used as such a means to an end is evidence enough for its corruption. For if we all seek God, and one method leads less astray than others, then why not go with the secure method?
