Daniel,

Excellent article on the possibility, maybe remote at this time, of Islam living peacefully side-by-side with its world neighbors. We in the West need to encourage and applaud every effort they make to reveal a more moderate face to the world. They will certainly benefit amongst themselves, as we will by a more progressive thinking Islam. Though we may need to consider modifying facets of our own.

Bruce Feiler, author of "Where GOD Was Born", recently wrote an article for PARADE Magazine (Sept. 11, 2005), "What We Must Learn From Iran". From various sources, including Bruce's article and your's, it sounds like Islam is slowly modernizing. In spite of the very grounded fear that the "extremist grip on power is simply too severe", Bruce emphasizes at the end of his article "to have any hope of avoiding religious war, we must begin by looking back to the origins of faith itself and finding, alongside the strands of intolerance, the seeds of coexistence."

Is it possible Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and others hold more in common then what divides and isolates us from each other, has propelled us to savage the other for millennia?

Do we have the wisdom to explore and discover what serves all our best interests? Many plain, common folks would like to know.
