Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict XVI and the Koran
in response to reader comment: Dig deeper for the reasons

Submitted by Plato (India), Nov 30, 2006 at 22:07

I did dig deeper, and dug as far as far as Ibn Ishaq. It is not possible to dig any deeper. You know history is written by the victors and Muslims were the victors and historians. What did the prophet do according to this historian who revers and adulates him? He began insulting and abusing their sacred idols. Till then Abu Lahab or any other Meccan had no problem with Prophet Mohammed and his new fangled religion.

The tolerance of the Meccans is seen from the fact that they allowed him to preach against their beliefs for more than ten years! Just try standing in front any mosque in the Muslim world and say they are worshipping a false god, Allah, and wait to see how long your body and soul will stay together. The Prophet insulted their sacred symbols, Abu Lahab only insulted a human being.

Now tell us of the big crime that merited a whole chapter of the tablet preserved in heaven to Abu Lahab and his wife.
