The advantage of immutability

Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict XVI and the Koran

Dr Pipes,

Perhaps the greatest strength of Islamic communities in the west is the extent to which the faith is able to harness the strength of all of its practitioners and direct them towards the singular goal of dominance across every field. This undermines the idea as presented by so many of the infidel friendly amelioraters that the faith is not a monolithic block. Sure in regions where muslims have noone to fight but themselves this can be seen to be the case - where varying interpretations prey off eachother. Where the nonbelievers are concerned Islam has only one agenda and this operates across all the various strata of the Islamic community. For example unlike criminal gangs in other communities like say the the African American gangs in South Central LA muslim criminal gangs are loathe to prey upon their own communities and tend to direct their criminal energies outwards despoiling the neighbourhoods of infidel communities, brutalising their youth and sexualising their women. The same can be said for their academic and political classes who seize such prototypical 20th/21st century political malaises as multiculturalism in a clandestine effort to silence critics and supplant our culture.

Then perhaps it is in this the freedom from normal human moral sensabilities that Islam finds its enduring appeal. The mantle of "necessary sin" in the west as taken up by people such as Harry Truman when he dropped the atomic bomb on Japan to end the Second World War is not one people tend to relish - in fact to this day debate rages over this particularly brutal but ultimately understandable decision and others like it. In Islam such actions are not only acceptable but elevated to a level of spiritual sanctity that people like Truman would throw off in disgust. The Prophet himself rapes, murders and pillages and does so successfully expanding the empire of faith around him and rendering such brutal actions holy. Might makes right under the crescent moon. Islam offers spiritual and moral superiority merely by swearing political allegiance to it and more moral flexibility than a westerner whose origins steeped in Judeo-Christian morality could ever concieve. It does this whilst also appearing to embrace the outward superficial polish of deep conservatism in matters such as sexuality, sex roles and dress. Where it interfaces with any other belief system this front breaks down rather readily into open banditry. They respect neither the property rights, the rights to freedom of religion, the rights to freedom from violence, the sexual liberty or the political structures of any society where they do not rule.

Cordially,
Reuben Horne.
