A new world order...

Reading the many interesting posts in this thread can be quite entertaining but also somewhat frustrating at the futility of arguing over religion.

It is obvious there is a chasm between the worlds 2 largest and most influentual spheres of religious thought, between Christianity and Islam.

Adherents of either camp are quite assured in their own minds of the veracity of their religious tenets and of the bogus nature of any other.

It seems it is high time for God to send another prophet to clarify the situation. But I should not go down that particularly dangerous route. As we know this was the teaching of the Bahai in Iran and the Mormons in US both of which were persecuted and had their leaders murdered at the hands of Islam on one hand and Christianity on the other. It seems that religious folk aren't all that interested in prophets unless they say what they want to hear. But enough of that. I digress..

Could it be that you are all wrong? What business has God got in creating religions anyway? A religion with an Aramaic speaking God here and Arabic speaking God there.. doesn't it seem just a little too convenient? Could it not be that in the beginning man created God in his own image, male and female, Arabic, Jewish, Oriental (Buddha), superhuman/animal amalgams (hindu) etc created they them..

Since we really can't agree on religion perhaps we could stand back from it a bit and look at each other as human beings. Having the same rights, opportunities, responsibilities as each other. Why don't we form a new world order and rather than 'surrender' our minds and logic to some abstract spiritual notion why don't we concern ourselves with bettering the lives of those around us and the planet generally..

If there really was a God do you really think he would care how many times you prayed to him in a day, or whether you drew a cartoon or image of any person? If there were a God would he need the feeble help of the likes of mutawa? Would God be at all pleased of you killing another because he was 'against' God? Would God need your puny help? Would God have enemies? Is there anything for God to fear?

And what about us.. What if we banished fear of death and accepted it as the evidence shows it is, the end of our existence. When we realise there are no virgins waiting for us, no heaven, no hell maybe we can focus on improving the present..
