Re the Popes take on Islam

Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict XVI and the Koran

Submitted by George Eusterman (United States), Jan 17, 2006 at 15:21

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for your good work. To add to the Pope's take on the Koran (I am not a Catholic) concerning the adaptability of the Bible vs the rigidness of the Koran there is an element in the Bible, love, that is absent in the Koran. The inate love the Jew has for humankind compared to the Ishmaelites is visible everywhere today, based on their specific heritages. Christians also reflect that love and grace. Abraham's first son has carried a hatred and disinfranchisement for centuries and Islam reflects it. The Koran is a legalistic set of dogma forcing specific behaviors from a capricious god while the Bible teaches humans to reflect God's love for them to each other. Love is the missing ingredient in Islam with no assurance of salvation.

Thanks again,
George Eusterman
