Excellent Explanation

Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict XVI and the Koran
in response to reader comment: "Why can't God forgive sin without the need for a sacrifice?"

Submitted by calvin basa (Philippines), Sep 19, 2015 at 19:34

Praise God! This is an excellent response to what a rabbi has asserted through the citation of Old Testament passages that God had prohibited the use of human sacrifices to atone for sins. He maintained that prayers of repentance accompanied by animal sacrifices were enough to attain forgiveness of sins. He cited a passage in Ezekiel where it was stated that the sins of the wicked will be charged to his own account while the good acts of the righeous will be credited to him. Human sacrifice, according to this Jew, was a practice perpetuated by the pagans who believed that children, due to their innocence, were the most fitting offerings in the fire in order to appease the gods.
