Dear TW Pope, you wrote :

I would say that it is safe to say that both men want to see the conversion of muslims, but they would differ on how to bring that about. I don't see this as contradictory, merely two gentlemen who disagree on the particulars of a plan of action.

Since BXVI's statements are from a second hand source (not one's that he intended for the public), not 'ex cathedra,' which means that the promise of infallabillity doesn't apply, and to my knowledge JPII never said anything about muslims and the koran 'ex cathedra,' they can disagree with eachother, and I can disagree with both men and and can honestly call myself a faithful Catholic.

How about starting with a short statement :

Cathechism of the Catholic Church , Citta del Vaticano 1993

841 The Church's relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."

Do Christians and Muslims share the same God and will they march together to a shared paradise as JPII suggested ex Cathedra ?
