in response to reader comment: Genetic Similarities Between Jews and Arabs

Hi,

I am tempted to scoff at the initial study because it seems so obvious. I'm Jewish and to me, saying that we are related to the Arabs with whom we have shared a common base language and culture for thousands of years is like saying "Hey guess what? The earth is round! No look, really!" But I understand the need to document everything with scientific evidence, that way people who are sailing the river denial on both sides of the conflicts we get into together can have irrefutable proof that they are wrong.

Of course, it probably won't make a dent in the real delusional folks, but it might wake up enough people to be reminded that our conflicts really are, and have always been sibling rivalry at it's worst and most dysfunctional. And I think it's a great wake up call to my own people who often strive to seem more European-origin or white, that "No, just because your family wandered through Norway, you changed your name from Moshe to Thor, and you have blue eyes, doesn't make you a Viking." We are who we are, and we should be proud of that!
