Perspective on Christian "Militancy"

Reader comment on item: A Christian Boom

Submitted by David J Crook (United States), Dec 2, 2002 at 13:25

Let's have some objective perspective. There is nowhere in the world where adherants of Christianity are killing, or advocating killing, Muslims, Jews or any other non-Christians. Nor are there any advocates for forced Christianization of the world. Nor are there any countries of historically Christian background where apostasy, the practice of non-Christian faiths is a crime, sometimes a capital offense. Nor are there any historically Christian countries where the state television network, with government funds, is presenting a "historical" miniseries on the Protocals of the Elders of Zion as "historic fact". Nor are there any historically Christian countries where women are systematically denied human rights.

If anyone wants to consider the state of Christian opinion and practice five centuries ago, it's only fair and objective to consider the state of Muslim opinion and practice at that same time.

Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi stated, "We must be aware of the superiority of our civilisation, a system that has guaranteed well-being, respect for human rights and - in contrast with Islamic countries - respect for religious and political rights, a system that has as its value understanding of diversity and tolerance."

By any objective set of standards, what Mr. Berlusconi said is fair and accurate.
