Christianity's Division

Reader comment on item: A Christian Boom

Dear Professor Pipes,

I had the privilege of hearing you speak ... in Atlanta recently. Thank you for coming.

Regarding the referenced article, I am a Christian, I am a Southerner, if categorized, I would probably fall into the evangelical camp. The most important division in the Christian faith is one that is very cleverly masked and covert. It is the difference between the Christians who believe that the Jews are to play a significant role in God's Plan as a nation and those who believe that God has turned his back on the Jews as a nation and that the church has replaced the nation Israel. The issues get very convoluted as all these religious issues do, but it is the central subject of which the divisions will come.

The Reformed, and Presbyterian and Angelican pastors are not forthcoming with their beliefs unless questioned specifically. But the marjorty - including R. C. Sproul and James Kennedy - preach and teach that the Christian Church has replaced Israel and the Jews are left with only curses. This is contrary to the teaching of the Torah, and the New Testestment. Beware and if you could make people aware of the issue it would be a good deed.

As a good reference regarding this issue you may wish to seek out Arnold Fruchtenbaum, PhD NYU. His thesis and later book is "Israelology: The Missing Link in Systematic Theology".
