Christian Fundamentalism is not militant

Reader comment on item: A Christian Boom

I don't get it. Some of your commentors take ever opportunity to attack Christian Fundamentalism in the same vein as militant Islam.

By definition a Fundamentalist believes the Bible to be literally true (Webster's New World Dictionary, Second College Edition). But never in modern history (the Crusaders were not Fundamentalists by today's standards) have Christians killed or threatened anybody, except in self defense.

And we certainly do not want to force anyone to except our beliefs against their will. Perhaps in the middle ages, Catholics did try to force a belief system on everyone, although the system they tried to force on others was not Biblical, by most Christian standards.

People who adhere to the teachings of the Bible are not going to murder people who don't believe as they do. So why, when nothing in the articles you post even hints that Christian Fundamentalism is an enemy, do some of your readers, put them in the same light as the militant Islamists?

I get it! If you don't believe as they do you must be the enemy! That sounds a lot like militant islam - if you don't believe as we do we can attack you. A revival of Christianity worldwide, is a good thing and certainly is not to be feared as some of your commentors suggested.
