The Great Divide

Daniel,

I also read the article by Jenkins with great interest, so was intrigued by your review.

I am a theologian who holds an M.Div. degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, where I had the opportunity to observe the differences in the Christian beliefs of those from the North and South.

Interestingly, I noted during my stay at PTS that American blacks were also generally and fundamentally (my word choice of "fundamentally" is deliberate) opposed to the liberal interpretation of the scriptures. South Koreans, nearly all of whom were Presbyterian, were appalled at the extreme leftist political as well as the radical feminist stances of their North American counterparts.

Anyway, I count myself among the traditional exponents of the Christian faith, believing that core Christian beliefs are often forsaken by those inclined to use the church for political ends. I've done some thinking and writing about the issues facing Christianity and other faiths during the 21st century--so I read your columns with great interest.

BTW, I am appreciative of your refusal to follow the politically correct line of thinking among those who track the leanings of the Muslim faith, especially those of Islamist persuasion.
