A few years back in an effort at being ecumenical, American Episcopalians and Lutherans met and promoted a joint statement of faith. Included was a declaration that the (entire) Bible is "the Word of God." The implication was that all of it can be interpreted some way in which is comes out not only true, but totally endorsed by God. Thus there is no part which is simply false, a hopelessly corrupted text, or immoral diatribe contraty to morality.

This is an extremist ideological rigid position, intimidating and insulting to young persons beginning to explore the various texts. Such rampant Wordism is lacking in any liberal or conscientious spirit. The same Wordism is found in Islamic and Islamist religions. ...
