Why were the children of Israel among the poorest and hated?

Why were the disciples of Jesus among poor and most hated? You can go further back and check out other prophets and their people (Noah etc.).

The right has always been at odds with the world! This is how God tests the people on the right path. Why bother testing the ones who are on the wrong path?
