Reader comment on item: A Christian Boom

Submitted by A. Theeyist (United States), Oct 4, 2007 at 21:57

Man's prevailing desire to submit himself to the will of an unverifiable supernatural entity is one of his greatest weaknesses. When we emerge from the smut-peddling god-laden (I intentionally omit a capital 'G' here) adolescence of our species we, the thinking men, will at long last be free of the most terrible, most limiting, most stifling constraint ever conceived.

Judaism, Christianity, Islam...these are necessary evils. Men cannot escape the desire of some to forfeit their humanity to a god-creature. Many men do not wish to, as when we relinquish ourselves to a god's control, we curiously tend to relinquish to some elite caste much power and money and status. These priests commit the vilest of crimes as a matter of course! They lie to children, telling them to believe something without the slightest shred of evidence! They tell our young that if they do not believe, if they do not submit to the dominance of holy mother church, that then they risk eternal damnation! This is disgusting, it is terrible! And it is crushing this nation.

The fundamentalists are now trying to peddle this fallacious 'argument from design' as though it were a theory of the same caliber as the theory of natural selection. God does not stand up to scrutiny using the scientific method, no matter how you package it. Do not let them take your son's or your daughter's education! Let god stay in god's house, and let the truth about our world and our place in it shine in the houses of education. How dare these so-called christians impose on the shining light that is science!

I was once asked (after being told by a compassionate Christian I would burn for eternity as I was not 'saved') what I would say to god were I to meet him. How could I explain myself (as if I need to)? Here's how:
"Oh god, you did not give us enough evidence!"
