Religion in politics: A cancerous disease of our world

Reader comment on item: A Christian Boom
in response to reader comment: Secular democracy?

Submitted by Bruce Orhan (United States), Nov 23, 2006 at 04:13

I Completely agree my friend. As a matter of fact, I found secular democracy as the only cure for the cancerous disease that has taken over govenrments of the world. Christian or muslim, when religion is mixed with politics, the basic promise of modern democracy: objectivity, scientific approach, human rights, freedom of speech, freedom in general... all threatened or eliminated. Thus democracy is only possible as a secular institution.

God and religions are created by smart people to manipulate masses of people. The intention of this manipulation is not necessarily good. So far religions has been very successful on manipulating masses of people, but when Secular democracy wins the war against theocracy in this world, then we will see the real haven is on earth. Because then we will love each other, respect each other, help each other not because we are afraid of the hell and hopefull for haven after we die, but because we are civilized people.
