Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]
in response to reader comment: controversy over Pope

Submitted by Maggie4Life (Australia), Oct 3, 2006 at 00:50

Mr. White,

I am pleased to hear that this particular group of Christians are managing to show what it is like to be Christian. Having learned something about the beginnings of the sect, I can understand why they were treated with suspicion during the Medieval period. It is certainly true that they were heretics which was the reason that they were persecuted and taken before the Inquisitors. The errors might even be considered as minor ones these days.

Anyway, if they are setting a good example for others to follow, then I can certainly understand why they would be welcomed in these other countries. I do wish that other evangelicals and the like could have a good look at themselves.

Anyway, I disagree that it is necessary to refrain from alcohol, but I do agree that dressing modestly is a good idea in any society. The reason that I disagree with the imposition of any by-laws is that the extra laws bind the people in the same way that the precepts bind the Jews. Christians are freed from such restrictions, although there remains a requirement of moderation in all things.
