Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]

Submitted by Yuval Brandstetter MD (Israel), Sep 26, 2006 at 16:25

Dr Pipes thoughtfully provided the link to the English version of the Pope's speech.

The gist is this. Faith and reason were born together, are married to each other, and its a catholic wedding. All attempts to divorce Logic from Faith are false and illogical. Islam, having used deadly force to Islamize, is doing the illogical thing by the Pope's faith, and should be castigated for this practice. The Pope does not dwell on the deadly force but upon the notion that Force should be used as means of empowering Faith.

In this the Pope is almost Jewish. Judaism never divorced faith from reason, has always maintained that God's word is for the Humans to comprehend, and for the Jews to obey.

Nor is his view newfangled. He refers to his inaugural speech in 1959 where he first presented ideas of the necessary synthesis between the Greek Logos and Judeo-Christian faith. The only new message he brings now is a six-hundred year old observation that Islam is not Logical, at least in the way he defines Logical faith.

Now, all this is trivial. The Islamists do not care a whit what the Pope actually said or explained, just as much as they dont care that we adorn the practice of a temporrary marriage with a virgin nine-year old female by the pejorative of Pedophylic Rape. The Islamists are on the march, subduing all those non-vertebrate Europeans and Jews with the very threat of dire violence. Appologies are useless. A forceful verbal response combined with expulsion of every Islamist who makes a threat or holds a weapon might do the trick.
