Rosh, Meshech, Tubal in Ezekiel--for Abijah

Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]
in response to reader comment: Proving the Pope right

Submitted by Peter J. Herz (United States), Sep 24, 2006 at 08:53

Why do we Evangelical Christians have to labor under the nonsense promulgated by Hal Lindsey back in the 1970's?

Abijah, I have read the book of Ezekiel many times, and it does not refer to Russia in Ezek. 38 and 39. The Resh, Meshech, and Tubal are not Russia, Moscow, and Tobolsk, as Lindsey and his ilk screamed and too many echo today, but the "Head of Meshech and Tubal"--which seem to be ancient nations that formerly lived in eastern Anatolia/Armenia/Caucasus region (most emphatically not northern Eurasia).

Among other things, the Russians are not historically a Muslim people, but a Christian one; and one feature of their national life that has arisen recently is a revival of interest in the Gospel among them.
