The time of the birth of Islam:Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam Submitted by Elroy J. Shafer (United States), Oct 1, 2006 at 22:25 It was my distinct impression that Islam was born following the Hegira. This article states that Muslims have a history of over five thousand years! will someone please provide data to clear this issue in the minds of we, who date Islam from the Hegira. In the historical reports about Alexander the Great I have not read of any reference to Muslims or Islam!---E.J.S.
