Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]

Submitted by Leo K (United States), Sep 19, 2006 at 18:02

The only thing louder than the Jihad war cries coming from the Islamic countries, including those we assumed to be our allies, is the deafening silence from the world's churches. Even learning that an innocent nun was shot point blank in the back and killed, a barbarous crime by any standard, was not enough to warrant more than a brief mention by the press or the church, when she should be made a martyr. The contrast between the followers of the "Lamb of God" and those of the "sword of Islam" should be a wake-up call nearly as great as 9-11. But it gets the same attention that the church gives to Sudan's war against its Christian population – practically none.

Instead, we need westerners to offer a recap of the Pope's "apology." But unfortunately, few of our Western self-explanatory comments will reach the Islamic countries who prefer the fire-breathing, blood-curdling fables, and genocidal rantings of their Islamic clerics, although some may be read by those equally rabid clerics we allow to reside and set up houses of "worship" in our neighborhoods.

Will we next hear shouts of "Death to Napoleon" when the Muslims of the world are read quotes from another emporer who also noted (1812) "The Koran ordains that idolators should be exterminated or made to pay to tribute; it does not permit obedience and submission to an infidel power. In this it is contrary to the spirit of our religion..." ? He also noted, even then, that "Mount Sinai [where Moses received the Ten Commandments] is a seat of learning and civilisation amidst the barbarism of the deserts" (a hint at the reasons for Islam's continual war against Jews.)

No one can feel comfort witnessing the Pope kneel down, in effect, and beg forgiveness before the brutish power of Muslim censorship protected by the sword and oil riches. How quickly did the unified Muslim entity proclaim a Jihad against these "worshipers of the cross" without any dissension from either "moderate" or our westernized Muslims. How quickly did this fifth column metamorphose into a first battalion inside our gates.
