Where are the Moderate Muslims?

Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]

Submitted by Allen Ginsburgh (United States), Sep 20, 2006 at 15:28

Does the response across Islam demonstrate that the words expressed six centuries ago by a Byzantine emperor, Manuel II Paleologus and quoted by the Pope are still true today? Or does the outcry of threats against the Pope prove that there are more Muslims with blood on their swords than those in terrorist camps?

Where are the moderate Muslims who should be standing up in support of their religion to demonstrate that what may have been true six centuries ago isn't true today? Daniel Pipes expects moderate Muslims to act against these wild Islamic threats and challenges in the world but I am begining to doubt they exist as the weak reponses of Western Europe against Arab threats described by Bat Ye'or in her book "Eurabia"seem to indicate. Osama bin Laden has ben quoted as saying Western Europe is alreadya dhimms land. Do we all fear to speak out?
