He brought a new way of life

Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]
in response to reader comment: Who 'won' the debate?

Submitted by Hamad (Saudi Arabia), Sep 25, 2006 at 14:26

I myself didn't go out and kill a nun or burn a Church or threaten to kill the Pope. If the Muslims who did this knew better about their religion they would have acted better, including the so called leaders of the Islamic world. All the people I know didn't do such things, so I can safely say we are a majority.

I will tell you what Mohammad brought new, he brought a new religion, with rules for all matters of life, including conflicts and war, as well as siginificant reform to the people of Arabia, where people called their prior enemies brothers. He laid a foundation for a new world where descrimination is only on the basis of good deeds, and the discriminator to be God only. He transformed the barbaric tribes of Arabia into a strong community with ideals, and prohibited the murder of their own daughters which was common amongst them. Even many Christian subjects of Byzantium( a direct response to the Emperor) preferred to live under Islamic rule rather than being subjecated by the emperors of Constantinople where many converted to Islam. (not by the sword as you claim, otherwise millions of China and Indonesia would not have converted to Islam where no Muslim army has marched). Even in the US, 20,000 Americans a year are becoming Muslims, and they are estimated to be the larget minority in the next century. Did Mohammad put a sword to their heads?

That is in short why we revere him, and expect you to respect our faith by not insulting him. If you want to disagree, feel free to criticize and debate. The point is, there's a difference between provocative insults and logical approach to speech, something I expected the Pope to know, guess I was wrong.
