Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]

Submitted by Iraqi-American (United States), Sep 19, 2006 at 13:27

The comments made by the Holy Father, as well as the uproar that has ensued, have been long overdue. There is no doubt that Muslims around the world will use these comments as an excuse to spread more hate and take a number of lives.

However, what exactly is wrong with the Holy Father's comments? Is there an educated Muslim in the world who will honestly say that the Koran does not call for the deaths of all non-muslims in order to obtain a perfect world? Of course not. What they will do is point to the "good" passages of the Koran and belittle the "threatening" passages. They will undoubtedly say that "Islam" translates to "peace". The world, however, must at some time decide to sit and look at the effects that Islam has had on the world as a whole.
