What would be regarded as violent

Mr. Sohail seems to be convinced of the non-violent nature of Islam. What would Islam/Allah have to say for it to be regarded as violent.

Does Mr. Sohail think the following to be the words of a Peaceful and Tolerant One:

"Those that deny our revelations We shall burn in fire. No sooner will their skins be consumed than We shall give them other skins, so that they may truly taste the scourge. God is mighty and wise." (4:56)

There seems to be a major disconnect between what the Muslims regard to be "peaceful and tolerant" and what the rest of humanity thinks these to be. Christianity had its fault but they have made peace with the past and have moved forward. The sad part is that Muslims don't want to part with the past and keep on hanging to the mindset of one person of seventh century. I have no problem even with that as long as they leave the rest of us alone.
