Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]
in response to reader comment: Smitty

Sohail,

The bible talks about specific historical incidences of violence which have their place in the history of a world. But that is what the incedences of violence in the bible are...history. The violence called for in the quran are standing orders to enforce submission., they are current today as the day they were written and that is where the threat of Islam lies.

The path to the future lies not in revenge or taking your turn at bloodshed, but in learning the lessons painfully gained through bloodshed. Racial inequality is not corrected by taking turns at who is the dominant force, gender inequality is not corrected by giving women a turn to make men submit...it is corrected by learning to co-operate. Taking turns at enforcing submission is not the path to a bright future and humanity would do well to learn that lesson well.

Peace

Canadian Chris
