in response to reader comment: Aristotle and the Muslims

How do you know Maggie4life that I do know nothing about Aristotle? There is an exquisite study by a Swedish Protestant theologian that traces the Hellenistic influences in the Roman Catholic Church: Eros and Agape. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Nygren

As I remember it the early Church fathers were much more influenced by Hellenistic mythoi/religion than by other fields. Aristotle meant nothing to the Church fathers, when later scholars revived Aristotle they were even considered heretics. I don't know why only the German Wikipedia entry on Aristotle has much more about the reception of Aristotle over the centuries. Or why it is close to a complete blank in the English version. You tell me. BUT there is no doubt at all that Aristotle was read studied, discussed and extensively commented on much deeper and earlier under Islam. We just do not need to chance history simply because we have a problem today. Do we?. And that essentially is my problem. He does not differentiate. There is no doubt at all, that there is a connection between Athen and Jerusalem, but doesn't he simplify a bit? I had no time yet to study it a bit more closely.
