The Greatest Gift We Have Is Free Speech

Reader comment on item: Pope Benedict Criticizes Islam [in Regensburg]
in response to reader comment: words of ignorance

Submitted by rie (United Kingdom), Oct 5, 2006 at 13:01

I have friends from different nationalities, religions, and sexual preferences and had no intent to insult or hurt anyones feelings. The biggest difference between the west and Arab and Islamic countries is not so much Religion and Culture but freedom of speech and expresion. This does not mean we all have to agree with everything that is expressed, but it does give us the right to criticise and express opinions. Both against the play I mentioned depicting Christ as bysexual and the Pope's recent quotes which I also found very offensive.
