Do you know anything about muslims?

Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?

Submitted by a muslim (India), Nov 3, 2009 at 01:27

Your section on 'Implications of Obama's conversion' assumes every Muslim believes in or follows Islamic Law.

I am a practicing Muslim, brought up in a very conservative Muslim family. I do not live in a Muslim state though. I have no idea what 'Islamic Law' is. Am I right in assuming these are laws of Muslim states in the Middle East? What is this 'murtadd'? Never heard of it before. If there's any possibility of Obama being in danger due to Muslims, it would be extremist Muslim attention-seeking power-hungry groups, not 'mainstream' Muslims. I request you to go meet your friendly next-door Muslims. You will be surprised to know they don't go about killing the 'infidels'. Stop spreading such notions about Muslims.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Read again what I wrote. Nowhere do I assume that all Muslims follow Islamic law.
