Can a muslim deny his religion

Obama deny and explain several times he never was and is not a muslim, and never practiced Islam, now there is no doubt he is not a muslim, coz no muslim can deny his/her relgion for any political issue or even for saving his/her life. But what he said is he knows how to deal with muslim nations and countries is a good thing. On the other side Bush being a Christian sitting in White house brings hatred for USA from muslim community and more insecurity for Christian People.
