Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?

Submitted by janusz kowalik (United States), Dec 24, 2007 at 12:39

Is it really relevant that a presidential candidate was a Muslim or a Mormon? Nobody is born a Mormon or a Muslin . We are all born atheists without any faith or knowledge of religions . Only our parents together with priests, imams and rabbis and schools do us harm by a brainwashing and making us Christians or other faith believers.

I would love to see a presidential candidate who says that he or she is a humanist who does not believe in any establish superstition. Americans believe that the President must be a member of an established religion and that religions provide a basis for morality. This is an obvious mistake. The prisons are full of Protestants, Catholics and Muslims. No religion helps us to be more moral and ethical. The opposite is true. Religions divide people and make them blind to reason and social compromise.

But it is true that some religions are more vicious than others. Buddhists do not kill to get to paradise becuse they do not believe in paradise .On the other hand all three Abrahamic religions have the same idea of afterlife and paradise, hell and other nonsensical concepts developed by primitive ancient Jews several thousands years ago.

To sum up, I think that a presidential candidate should be an honest and experienced politically person and the issue if religion should not be a part of the selection or election.
