late in the game but whats the difference?Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim? Submitted by J Napolitan (United States), Oct 23, 2008 at 11:29 I know its late in the game but really what difference does it make? .....Obama was exposed to muslim beliefs....and catholic and christian beliefs....so what? Honestly, I am more concerned about the effects of people like Rev. Wright that any indoctrination as a child....The catholic church has committed as many sins and evils in the name of the church and god as any muslim....lets not forget the crusades. My ancestors were pagans, indians, and celts......does that make me a pagan, indian, or celt only? Not likely since this is America where we are all free to choose....usually though until we reach a certain age our parents choose for us.....sometimes that includes things that make us aware of our ancestors and the cultures we came from...if this did not happen we would not have cinco de mayo celebrations, st. patricks day, halloween, christmas, easter, etc.....many of these things are cultural events tied to our ancestors beliefs that have been blended into our present culture....so is it wrong that as a child he was exposed to both sides of his parental and ancestors beliefs....or could it be that it gave him a strong grounding of who he is....the point that it could affect his policies is valid but we could say the same for anyones upbringing....for instance bush was brought up rich and around oil....oil companies are now making record profits...coincidence or policy? There are thousands of these examples... McCain was a soldier and wants to remain in Iraq....connected who knows....point is each of us are made who we are by our ancestoral history, our upbringing, our own experiences and our personal beliefs about the world we live in.....none of us is all of one and none of another....Barak Obama included Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
