To: Louis Jugal, from everything that I have read and learned (and that is a lot), it is not the religon of the mother the child is born into, but the father. When this muslim I was considering dating had learned that I have arab as part of my ethnic group, he was disappointed to learn it was from my MOTHER's side and not my father's side.

Why do you think it's only muslim males that are allowed to date non-muslim females and not muslim females allowed to date non-muslim males? It's because it comes from the FATHER'S side and NOT the mother's. So, according to Islam, having a muslim father (practicing or not), that makes all the children automatically muslims, no choice.
