child's view vs free spirited dual family

Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?

Please consider this possibility that would explain why Obama does not see himself as a Muslim. He grew up in a twice broken family. Regardless of Moslem law requiring the child to go by the father's religion, if the father is absent the child identifies with the mother and her way of life...all of his life. She was a professing Christian but a practicing free spirit. Then along comes a step-father. Why would Obama suddenly love and respect this man and want to follow his ways? Literally walking behind his step-father to attend a prayer service in a mosque does not mean the child understands what is going on and does not make the child a Moslem in his heart. The child identifies with the mother and later by her parents when he is sent at a young age to live with them...in Hawaii where he was born and lived in the very first part of his life.

The Jews have a different line of law. A person is considered a Jew through the mother's line. But if a Jewish child isn't exposed to a whole-hearted Jewish life why should that child think he is a Jew? And if a Catholic school in Indonesia has to identify each child's religion wouldn't it seem likely that the parent filled out the form and abided by the step-father's heritage because of Muslim law? Can't you see that from Obama's view from his childhood he was a Christian because his mother was a Christian as were her parents! They raised him...not the father or the step-father!
