Reader comment on item: Was Barack Obama a Muslim?

Wow. I thought that I had read some pretty ignorant stuff written about Obama but this might take the cake. No matter what a the Islamic faith says about being born in, it is still a religion, a belief system. If you don't believe in it then I don't see how it matters what the religion says. Obama has been a openly practicing Christian for over 20 years.

Islam is not the only religion that you are born into; have you ever heard of Judaism?

Also this quote "If the political wind changes, i'll back the Muslims"; he's on record as saying this huh? Whose record? This is simply not a real quote, I challenge anyone to find a reputable source for this quote. If anything, it is a drastic misquote and probably also well out of reasonable context.

Actually I'm pretty sure you don't have a picture of him in Muslim dress; what you have is a picture of him in traditional Somali (African) dress. Donning the traditional garb of the country you are visiting is common among elected officials in America, even Dubya does that.

I assume that you are referring to Raila Odinga of Kenya as Obama's cousin. There is no evidence to support that Obama is related to Odinga other than reports that Odinga sometimes claims this. But I can't even find reliable sources to confirm that Odinga has ever actually claimed such a thing at all.

Odinga doesn't rule anything alone since he and Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki share power evenly as per a deal brokered by UN president Kofi Annan after Kenya's too-close-call elections garnered political controversy. Raila Odinga is an Anglican (Church of England) and has never proposed Sharia for Muslims. He has however proposed laws that would protect Muslims (a minority in Kenya) from discrimination.

I have to admit I have an addiction to truth. When I see ridiculous slander and lies being thrown around without the slightest evidence of research or regard for truth or reality I can't help but respond. So please help me out and do just a little bit of research before you post this type of filth, so that I don't need to school you in the future. I have better things to do.

Regardless of the circumstances of his birth and any religious juju there is not one single fact that reasonably suggests that Barack Obama is, or has ever been a practicing Muslim.
